Our History

The story of Carman Bakery & Pastry Shop began in Veendam, The Netherlands, where Simon’s parents owned a bakery,  There he would help his dad in the bakery, and thus learned how to bake.

Simon met Audrey while he was doing an internship for a farmer in Canada. After Audrey graduated high school she moved to the Netherlands, where they married and started a family.

In 2005, they felt the pull back to Audrey's home town of Carman, Manitoba,Canada. At the time the local bakery was for sale. They both had baking experience from working for Simon's parents, so they decided to take the first steps of a great journey, and put in an offer. Equipped with their skills, a dream, and a tireless work ethic, the couple set out to embark on a project that would lead them to places they would have never expected.

Over the next few years they embarked on many renovation projects. The storefront was completely changed, neighbouring buildings were combined into one, dutch groceries, a coffee, shop, and a soup and sandwich lunch were introduced over the years.

In 2009 regulations made it that they could no longer bake in the original bakery, unless many changes were made that just did not make sense for the old building. This lead to the purchase the old Chicken Delight restaurant and transforming the kitchen into a bakery. They also build on a warehouse. They continued to use the original bakery as the store front, and did all the baking at the new bakery; every morning fresh produce would be driven across the street to be sold at the store.

2016 was a year of great changes. A contract had been created with various wholesale accounts, making it very difficult to keep up with both locations. They decided it was best to sell the original bakery, and create a store front into the new bakery so everyone could be at work in one location, and focus on what they do best: baking.
